Spokane Fitness Hydration: How much water should I drink to remain hydrated?
Thursday, August 21st, 2008Everyone has heard that you should drink at least eight 8 ounce glasses of water a day. When you are fitness training with a Spokane Personal Trainer, in a class at a Spokane Gym, or biking along one of the great Spokane Bike Trails, keeping yourself properly hydrated can prevent, muscle cramps, headaches, dizziness, nausea, and difficulty paying attention.
WHAT IS THE BEST WHY TO STAY HYDRATED?
-
- Start your day off with an eight ounce glass of water. After not drinking for 6-8 hours at night, you need to get started right away!
-
- Sip cold water throughout the day. Your body absorbs cold water easier than warm water.
-
- Carrying a water bottle with you at all times will help you remember to drink more often.
-
- If you don’t want to drink water, drinking low calorie, low sugar beverages such as flavored waters may help you drink more, but try to minimize the amount of soda, alcohol and coffee. They will only dehydrate you.
And those tips are just for normal, day to day activity! If you want to stay hydrated during a work out:
- - Drink one to two cups of fluid two hours before exercise.
- - Drink ½ to 1 cup of fluid every 15 minutes during exercise.
- - Following exercise, drink 2½ cups of fluid for each pound lost during exercise.
- - Continue drinking even when you don’t feel thirsty.
Sports drinks are only more beneficial than water when your work out lasts more than one hour. If you are planning on training for more than one hour, it is recommended you drink something that contains electrolytes and carbohydrates; thirty to sixty grams of carbohydrates for each hour of exercise.
