Congratulations! I hope you are reading this because you’ve decided its time to start working to get your body into shape and become healthier and more fit. A healthy lifestyle requires balance in your life. But where do you start and what do you balance? Perhaps you are feeling overwhelmed at the thought of starting an exercise program. Balancing three main factors can turn your life around and you will start to feel better and see a difference sooner that you might think. Getting your body into shape won’t happen overnight, but it will happen with some time and perseverance. Your Spokane Fitness Coach will work with you on these 3 key lifestyle factors:
The food you will consume:
- Nutrition- You will need to fuel your body with a balanced diet. Start by making smart healthy food choices. Try to eat 5 smaller portions each day and never skip breakfast! After your workout always make sure to have a small recovery snack within 30 minutes. For example this should be something high in carbohydrates and protein such as a small bowl of whole grain cereal with skim milk or a piece of fruit with string cheese.
The exercises you will do:
- Find a mode of exercise you enjoy- i.e. biking, running, swimming, sports, etc. and build a workout around that exercise. For example if you really love to bike do that 3-4 times a week and then do weight lifting and stretching during the workout. This may mean 2 minutes of intense riding on a stationary bike followed by 8-10 repetitions of a lift such as bicep curls. Repeat this until you have completed 10 minutes on the bike and 3 sets of each lift. Then do a steady pace on the bike for 20 minutes. After the workout do a pilates routine to work on core strength.

He will decide how many and what type of exercises you will do during each workout and set the pace for what you need to do to be able to achieve the body you want. He will be your “coach” and your “cheerleader” at the same time.
The amount of rest your body will need:

Give your body rest- You need plenty of sleep every night. If you don’t get enough sleep, not only do your muscles not recover fully, but also you won’t have enough energy to properly exercise during the day.
Find someone to hold you responsible

Find a friend or an exercise buddy to help support your goals.
Keep a food journal

This will make you more aware of everything you put into your body and hold you responsible for what you eat. Plus you can analyze your diet to see if you are meeting your nutritional goals. A balanced diet includes no more than 30% calories from fat, 50-60% calories from carbs, and 10-20% protein.
Stick to a routine

Don’t skip days if at all possible because once you miss one day it is easier to skip another.
Exercise every day

Try to get 30 minutes of activity everyday of the week. Make at least 2 days cardio days in which you get your heart rate up.
Focus on the core

The 4 abdominal muscles (rectus abdominis, internal oblique, external oblique, and transverse abdominis) help stabilize and generate all body movements. Building these muscles will prevent injury.
Track your results
