If you have already been using weights for a while, you should schedule a time for a demonstration to critic your technique and make any needed changes that will help you attain your weight loss goals sooner and safer.
Lift Weights-achieve weight loss while toning your muscles at the same time
Incorrect weight training techniques can lead to painful injuries, such as sprains, strains, or fractures that can slow down your weight training efforts. Make sure your techniques are done correctly by working with a professional. Follow these helpful tips:
- Begin with light weights in the 2 – 5 pound range. These weights are fine to start out with but if they seem too easy for you, move on to some heavier weights. After the 12th repetition or so, if it doesn’t seem like you’ve worked your muscles very hard, your weight is too light and it’s time to pick up a heavier weight. But be careful to make sure the weight isn’t so heavy that you are struggling to move it just 3 or 4 times.
-
Use weights for body-strengthening exercises, but don’t use them while you are walking. It can increase unneeded stress on the joints from the repetitive swinging.
Give your muscles a workout to attain successful weight loss:
- Some of your muscles in your body are already stronger than others so different exercises require different amounts of weight. For instance, if you do a squat or a lunge, you can normally use the heavier weights to work your quadriceps in the legs.
- When doing shoulder exercises you are working the deltoid muscle group in the shoulders. This is a weaker group of muscles and you should choose lighter weights to start with.
- Your biceps in your arms may be extra strong since you use them every day, so you may be able to lift significantly heavier weights when doing exercises such as bicep curls.
Letting your muscles rest is part of successful weight loss:
- Muscles also benefit from having a recovery day between sessions so you should do muscle-strengthening moves every other day. If after lifting weights you feel sore for several days afterwards, you have pushed yourself too hard. You need to gradually increase the intensity of your workout a step at a time.
