Just the other day I got a message from another dear friend who just found out she has breast cancer. Her days are now consumed with doctor appointments, family consultations, and health insurance forms. She is afraid, and she knows that this is a big mountain she is facing. It happens every day all over Spokane. Knowing how this will affect her life, her family, and her spirits, my heart is breaking for her. We all either know someone, or have been, ourselves, in a similar situation. Her message was a wake-up call, and it really shook me up.

It’s a Goal!
It’s that time of year again! Time to sign the kids up for Spokane soccer. If your child has never played youth soccer, the Spokane Youth Sports Association is a great place to start.
“The mission of SYSA is to provide sports activities for all youth where everyone plays, develops skills, is taught good sportsmanship, and learns the value of being a team player.”
What If My Child Has Never Played Before?
No matter. That’s what SYSA is all about. It’s a great place to start out and learn the game. There are competitive, traveling teams available later if your child becomes very passionate about the sport.
There is nothing cuter than seeing a small boy or girl on the Spokane soccer field for the first time. The smile on their faces while running, kicking, and just being out in the fresh air with their buddies. Bring your camera and video recorder. You’ll want to cherish these memories over and over for years to come!

Cardio
A skater needs to do cardio workouts in addition to practicing his/her skating routines. Cardio helps build skating stamina which is imperative when performing the intense skating routines we love to watch.
Stretching
Figure skaters must be very flexible to perform the moves they do. Stretching before and after a cardio workout is important. Yoga, pilates and ballet provide needed stretching exercise as well.
Strength Training
A professional figure skater doesn’t want to do heavy weight lifting as they want their body to remain lean. However, strengthening exercises without weights, such as leg lifts, are ideal.
