Spokane Podiatry and foot pain: How being overweight is affecting your feet

Thursday, May 14th, 2009

Spokane fitness coachDo you have a lot of foot pain no matter what sort of shoe you wear, or how often you take a break and sit down? Are you more than just a few pounds over weight? Most likely, your weight is damaging your feet. With each step you take, you are putting about 1 ½ times of your weight on each foot. If you are a runner, or trying to be a runner, it is more like 3 or 4 times your weight with each step. Among other foot problems, being over weight can cause heel pain and arthritis. You should go visit your Spokane podiatry office and get their expert opinion. They will most likely send you home with some pain medication, stretches, and instructions to lose weight!

What can I do to easy my foot pain?Spokane fitness coach

Start out gently. If you are significantly over weight, running is only going to exacerbate the condition. Light cardio like using a stationary bicycle, an elliptical machine, and even a beginner’s aerobics class is a good place to get going. Once you have started loosing the weight, step up the intensity of your exercise. Start using light weights for resistance training. We all know that muscles burn more calories than fat. And even though muscle also weighs more than fat, the added strength to your joints will also help decrease your foot pain, as well as any other joint pain, like knees, back, shoulders, and your neck.

What if losing weight doesn’t stop my foot pain?

If you have lost a significant amount of weight (10-50 pounds, depending on how over weight you were to start with), and you still have foot pain, go back to your Spokane Podiatry office. Once they see your weight loss, and note that you are still in pain, it will most likely prompt a more in depth look at your feet and any underlying causes there may be that were originally disguised by your weight.

Who can help me get off the extra pounds?

Zach Hunt, the owner of Physzique Personal Fitness is one of the leading personal trainers in the Spokane area. He can sit down with you and discuss your needs and wants. He has the knowledge to help you make the right choices in exercises and stretches to best resolve your foot pains, and to strengthen your core so that you don’t cause any other pain by making the wrong exercise choices. He will keep you motivated and on the right track to be in the best shape of your life!

Sunday, September 7th, 2008

Have you ever thought about the fitness equipment Spokane Wa has to offer?  We live in a beautiful area that has so many fitness opportunities.  You could go with the more traditional fitness opportunities, or you could shake it up a little.  I have found fitness equipment Spokane Wa has to offer all over our beautiful city.

Fitness equipment Spokane Wa has to offer:

·         Riverfront, Manito and so many other Spokane Parks

·         Mount Spokane, 49 degrees North, and many other great destinations

·         Spokane River, Bike trails, and hiking

·         A local Spokane personal trainer

Parks are great fitness equipment Spokane has to offer:

Riverfront Park offers a variety of fitness equipment opportunities.  They have miniature golf, the Ice Palace, and have you ever thought about doing the Sculpture walk offered on Centennial Trail?  This is a great way to learn about the history of Spokane and stay fit at the same time

Manito Park is another beautiful park that offers an array of gardens you can walk through, trails you can walk and paths you can jog, bike or take a stroller on.  Depending on the time of the year Manito and Riverfront can be great fitness equipment tools in Spokane.

Mount Spokane is a great fitness equipment tool in Spokane:

Don’t look at Mount Spokane and other local ski areas as just a winter activity.  Yes, you can ski, sled and enjoy the winter, but you can also use these beautiful destinations as summer fitness equipment.  They all offer hiking trails, scenic tours, and give you a chance to admire the wildlife and the nature that surrounds us here in our area.

Use the Spokane River as a piece of fitness equipment for a good workout:

The Spokane River offers many areas for swimming, kayaking, canoeing, and other physical activities you can use for your fitness goals.  Learn a new hobby, take up kayaking, canoeing or learn to swim in one of our many Rivers and Lakes in our area.

Spokane offers a variety of bike trails throughout our city. One such example is the Centennial Trail which connects Spokane, WA to Coeur d’Alene, ID. This route takes about 25 miles of the trail in Washington then goes over the mountains for the last 15 miles to Coeur d’Alene.  There are several other paths throughout our great city, just remember to be respectful of others and wear the proper protective gear.

Hiking trails are a big hit in the Spokane area.  We have several in our area that range from beginner to advanced.  Try one of these or explore and talk to some locals to give you more ideas in your area.

Fat Burning Secrets From A Personal Trainer Spokane

Wednesday, August 20th, 2008

Being a Personal Trainer Spokane and fat loss expert, I’m constantly asked what’s the best way to lose fat and tone up fast!

Really the best strategy is knowing what to do and simply doing it. Want a shortcut?

Seek the advice of a qualified and professional a Personal Trainer Spokane or a Spokane fitness coach who has a proven track record.

Let me give you the down and dirty facts and a few quick tips to accelerate your Spokane fitness results and get maximum fat burning results.

When you exercise make it intense - I’m sure you’ve heard by now that long, slow cardio is not only boring, but just not the most effective especially for a time-crunched Spokane resident. The real issue is that slower paced activities like walking and such just don’t burn that many calories. Whether it’s cardio or weights, make it intense. That means sweating is okay. As a Spokane Personal Trainer I want my clients to get excellent results and this is what I recommend to them all.

Make your diet a priority - some people like to put percentages on diet and exercise saying diet is a certain percentage of your overall results whether it’s 50%, 75%, 90% or whatever. But in truth what you eat is near 100% of your results. I can exercise 23 hours a day, but if I take that other hour and gorge until the cows come home I will most certainly still gain weight. The moral of the story:  get your diet straight.  Make sure you have your diet on track. Yes, it’s that important.

As part of my Personal Trainer Spokane program: “The Physzique Transform System” I require that all my clients keep a food journal or log of some sort. This is not only helpful to keep them accountable, it also helps them realize what all they eat in a day. Yes, liquids to count. Those handfuls of candies do count. The half doughnut you had by accident does count. Everything you put into your mouth throughout the day counts toward your calorie intake.

Drink more water and only water - often times people forget all the calories that they drink throughout the day from sodas, milk, fruit juice, etc. I make it a habit to just drink one thing - water. While it’s not a bad thing to drink other liquids, it’s just water is the best and it’s calorie free.

Of course the ultimate solution is always going to be proper diet and exercise. Want help with an exercise routine and solid nutrition plan that will help you lose fat and tone up fast? Go here: Personal Trainer Spokane Success Secrets…
